Why do horses need to be rescued?

Horses find themselves in need for a variety of reasons.  With the poor economy and the rise in hay and grain prices many horses find themselves without support and feed.  Some need our help due abuse and neglect..
Some are sent to auction to be sold.  Most of these find themselves purchased by “killer buyers” to be sent for slaughter.

There is nothing acceptable about the slaughter process.  Each year over 100,000 horses are slaughtered, most for human consumption in Europe.  Although the U.S. did close all slaughter house operations in 2007, they are now being shipped to Canada and Mexico for processing.
The methods used to kill the horses are brutal over the border.

Horses are crowded into cattle trailers for transport, often for days without food or water. Over 30% are injured from fighting, close confines and transport.
You might think these horses are the old, the sick and the broken down.  But many are sound and healthy, young and unbroken.

We need to work together towards legislation banning the transport for processing over the U.S, borders. We need to team together to stop Montana from their quest to open a new horse slaughter plant this year.  We need to rise up and become better stewards of the world by teaching the next generation respect and love of all living creatures.
