What We Do
Horses In Need (HIN) offers individual attention, care and rehabilitation of each horses that we rescue.
We give one on one attention to the horses as they are brought in which enables us to customize their feed and vet care to ensure they return to full weight and health quickly.
We reconnect with the horses mind and soul, letting them know they count in life, that they matter.
Using natural training methods we re-train each horse specific to their needs.
We do everything possible to ensure the success of each horse so that as they are adopted into loving homes they will not find themselves back in the slaughter or abuse cycle.
We do everything possible to stay in touch with the adopted horses. Our commitment to them is lifelong and that when we look them in the eyes and tell them they are safe, we mean it!
How We Got Started
Scout was the horse that planted the seed in 2006. He was sick, going blind, skinny and abandoned. After rescue, a long fight and almost dying, Scout is now a blind but happy permanent resident at Horse In Need!
The Yahoo Support Group was formed next when 2 Arabians Geldings were at a county shelter with the immediate risk of euthanasia. An incredible team came together to save these geldings and were the start of the member list!
2 years later Horses in Need Rescue was founded, and we began bringing in rescues to the ranch in Scotts Valley, CA. Using love, respect and natural training methods, the rescued horses are given the 5 R’s
-Rescue
-Rehabilitate
-Reconnect
-Retrain
-Rehome
We are entirely volunteer run. The volunteers help the horses, who in turn give back to the souls of those who help save them!
